"Abolish the electoral college. It is unconstitutional."
That is the current cry. It has been the cry of politicians since Hillary first voiced it and attempted to hijack the election in 2016. I'm sure it would have been my cry as well until I took time to read the constitution and the forefathers' writings and reasons for including the electoral college in the U. S. Constitution. They did not have as much reason to continue the electoral college as we do, especially with the rumors of impeaching President Donald J. Trump. He won by working the system the same way that President Obama did and would continue to do -- especially as the current Democrats continue to cry out and seek to impeach President Trump.
Think about that for a moment. I have. Have you?
The whole point of the electoral college is so that we do are not forced to hang a man or condemn a man by popular vote. That is VERY constitutional here in this modern media-saturated world. We, the American people, will not be at the mercy of popularity or inundated by an avalanche of being hamstrung by the popular vote. In this country, the U. S. Constitution rules us. We should be very thankful that it does.
President Trump was elected and the electoral college ratified that vote. No, it was not popular if you measure his presidency by the popular outcry of IMPEACH HIM and Maxine Waters's screams of hatred and IMPEACH HIM. The U. S. Constitution forces us to step back, cool off, and call off the dogs.
That has never been the effect of the Electoral College which forces us to step back, cool off, and allow the constitution to work.
Consider this, we all want to hang someone. We don't have all the facts, but we rush to judgment and hang him. We realize we made a mistake. He was innocent but we cannot UNhang him. He is dead and the popular vote had him convicted and hung. We will have to live with that knowledge: WE HUNG AN INNOCENT MAN.
That is what the electoral college is time and rational thought. We would wish that we had taken the time and gotten the sense before we hanged blacks and innocent men. Our Forefathers took the time and they have imposed the electoral college on us for just this eventuality. If Hillary had taken the time to get the electoral votes, she would have defeated Obama or would have won out over Trump. I think we all are secretly glad that she did not think that far. She believed that we the people would bow to the popularity of the vote. That didn't happen because of the electoral college. That is what the Democrats don't understand and why they have been going at it hammer and tongs since Trump was elected and the electoral college ratified his election.
I didn't understand the purpose of the electoral college and I shouted as loudly as all of you who hate Trump and wish to impeach him when I railed against Obama. It was not because of his color. It was because I had not read enough and understood enough. I was wrong.
Can't you see it? Don't you recognize yourself yet? Give it time.
I hope we have enough time to realize that before we abolish the Electoral College.
If the Democrats come back from the summer and get into the impeachment investigation as they are planning, we may have to go through another impeachment trial with President Trump in the hot seat. Think about it. Do you really want to impeach him with Maxine Waters leading the charge?
Think about it. Think hard. Review the allegations before you go down that road.
